proud bird

A very proud bird with its head held high. Taken at Ventura Harbor.

  1. The proud bird is a cormorant. I like how you isolated the bird from the busy background. However, the two highlights above the beak are a little distracting and need to be knocked down. The white stern in front of the beak, and possibly, the stern in the left hand corner also pull my eye from the bird, but this could possibly be fixed by lowering the temperature of the white balance, tinting the image with more oranges and yellows. This would also bring out the orange highlights in the feathers, making the bird even more attractive.
Bodies of water don't naturally tilt, but tilting has become far more common and acceptable. The angle of the bird is far more important, compositionally. I like the image.

  2. Charlie, this is a beautiful image. I love the marina and the marina wild life. I lived on a boat in Marina Del Rey for over 3 years and your images bring me back to that. You have an amazing eye. I can't wait to see your work in other genres and subject matters.
