About an hour and a half outside of Paris is Giverney, home and gardens of Monet. When visiting these gardens it is easy to see where Monet got his inspiration. Is this landscape or documentary?
I think the time of day images are taken has everything to do with determining whether images are artistic, landscape shots or documentary, recording shots. Color Images taken before 9 or 10 a.m. or after 3 p.m, in bright sunlight, have a warm, orangey tint that gives them an artistic feel. Images taken after 10 a.m. or before 3 p.m. have harsh shadows and an ugly, cold feel to them. This is actually the time to shoot b & w. Images taken under cloud cover or in open shade changes this rule. These two images were taken in the latter time zone and are more documentary, recording shots than appealing landscape shots.
From the photographs I've seen you post so far it seems like you're drawn to color. I like the contrast of the soft pink to greens in the second iamge. Maybe you could have utilized the reflection in the second image...just a thought. Maybe not the best time of day to shoot, but I like your composition. Nice framing in the first image. Lens flare in the bottom right of the first image?
Walter...I learned something new from your post. Never heard that mid-day photos are best in black & white. Thank you!
